RSS subject feeds

I was inspired by Katie's blog to experiment with adding some RSS feeds to my blog! I'm wondering if I can do some of what Theresa is doing with her History blog in terms of posting info and links to new resources, but also add a couple of TOCs for journals/news in my subject areas.

I'm learning how to use our digital camera, which coincides with learning how to upload images onto my blog. Needless to say, I now have an extensive archive of cat pictures... I also discovered that I couldn't upload images using Firefox, but no problem in IE (I'm fairly rattled by this). I'm thinking about how students might use this technology in my art classes... Maybe even there's a class that could use the librarians in shower caps link that Rob so kindly provided us.

RSS option on my toolbar

I just added the Google Reader "subscribe as RSS" tool to my browser bookmark toolbar - now if I come across a website that I think I'd be interested in checking in on as it's updated I can quickly see if it's set up to work as an RSS. Does Bloglines have a similar feature??

RSS

I'm so excited about RSS (sigh) - my first RSS feed (using google reader - I like the look and feel better than bloglines) is Theresa Mudrock's History blog.

welcome and first impressions

hi,

Welcome to my blog! I'll be using this space to record my random thoughts about the use of various technologies in support of the work I do as a librarian. I'm excited to finally learn about blogs (I'm feeling very behind the times on all of this!). I'm seeing interesting possibilities for using blogs for classes - for collaborative work, for "production" of work. I should probably be concerned (or at least thinking about) what it means to host student work on a non-university server?? I would like to also experiment with creating blogs that can be restricted to specific groups, but owned collectively.

I'm intrigued by Katy's link to a library that's using a blog for their website. I really appreciated Venta's comments about being a learner again - as a novice user of blogs this is a good opportunity to think about our novice users of library databases, and what happens (or not!) when frustration sets in! I love how visually interesting some of our librarian blogs are - I would really like to learn (finally) more about using images.

more later!
